What is Jivamukti yoga?
Founded by Sharon Gannon and David Life in New York City in 1984, Jivamukti classes integrate the physical, psychological and spiritual aspects of yoga. Classes include vigorous vinyasa-based asana practice, hands-on adjustments, breath awareness and meditation. Classes are themed and supported by Sanskrit chanting, music, readings and references to philosophical texts. This means that the practice of asana becomes more than simply the physical exercise to keep fit or to increase strength or flexibility, it becomes a way to improve one’s relationship to all others and work towards the dissolution of the sense of separateness.
